MACC LOSS OF PUBLIC CONFIDENCE

NST Monday, September 26, 2011 reported that the three MACC officers involved in the extortion-cum-robbery at KLIA on September 15 has been transferred to a ‘desk job’ and that the MACC is conducting an internal investigation into the case.

I just simply cannot understand what a ‘desk job’ means, and why should the MACC be allowed to conduct an internal investigation when the case is clearly criminal in nature. Isn’t this not going to be a police case or are the police waiting for the MACC to file a report first before they (police) take on the case? Or is it because the MACC officers are government salaried; hence they have the luxury of time and the case is at the pleasure of the MACC.

What if it was done by someone else or that it was done by me? I am quite sure I will be placed in a police cell without haste and denied off my worldly benefits; with the exception of the air around me. I know too that I will be abused to solicit a confession and the case speedily presented to the court, tried and incarcerated in Sg. Buloh prison. That is the privilege one gets being a no body.

Base on what I know being a retired government servant, a case like this that is criminal in nature should have been handed over to the police with an accompanying police report. I think the MACC are experts at making a police report, but in this particular case involving their own officers, they are somewhat hesitant in filing a police report. Why do they need to do an internal investigation is mind boggling. This should rightfully be a police responsibility and not theirs. You and I know that an internal investigation is usually flawed and lopsided, and any incriminating evidence that goes against the department is usually shielded off. I have heard this done too often.

Now, taking the three ‘thieves’ off their appointment and placing them to a ‘desk job’ is also something I cannot understand. If I was the MACC Director, I would have suspended the three ‘thieves’ and imposed a loss of earnings and benefits until such time the case is resolved by the court. I do not know what are the regulations and procedures to be taken on government officers involved in criminal activities, but certainly I don’t believe the action taken by MACC is correct.

I am told that the stolen cash of about RM1 million is still not found, and the remaining two honourable ‘thieves’ are still missing. Or are they now enjoying their loot in Casablanca, Paris or Les Vegas?

MACC certainly has a long way to go to redeem their lost pride and public confidence. I most certainly have lost confidence in the MACC, and don’t blame me and the rest. And just ask the Singapore money changer if they can trust the MACC.

Dato,is this the same MACC where you have force suicides and witnesses being thrown out of windows like monkeys. If this is the same MACC where TBH and Sabrani were forced to commit forced suicide or forced to jump out of windows then what can the public expect.

These three MACC officers were alledged to have commited a robbery of 1 million ringgit.A robbery is a criminal offence and should be handled by the police. What business have the corrupted MACC to investigate a robbery or extortion case, especially three of their own.

It must be the biggest joke in law enforcement history. And a one million ringgit robbery or extortion case is no small joke.People get killed under police custody, during interogation for allegedly committing crimes of less than a few ringgit.

Datuk,

Firstly I think the Singapore money changers (and all Singaporeans and most Malaysians for the matter) no longer trust the Malaysian government and its authorities (PDRM, Immigration, Customs, MACC, AG, etc). The country's reputation is in total tatters no thanks to the head honchos at the helm of MACC and PDRM playing twiddly twinks and employing time delaying tactics to forestall investigations and actions against their own people.

Secondly, you are being kind to suggest that the "MACC has a long way to go to redeem their lost pride and public confidence". The MACC is a total write off in the eyes of Malaysians and the government might as well shut down the MACC for all we care. The MACC was set up to serve only their one and only political master and they have done an "admirable" job to-date with the deaths of TBH and Ahmad Sarbani and countless intimidation and abusive treatment to innocent people and opposition party members.

Thirdly, the MACC's decision to transfer the corrupt thieving officers to a desk job with the lame excuse they would not be carrying out any MACC probes is so laughable and ridiculous. What benefit does this desk job brings to the MACC except to make a complete mockery of the entire MACC? Is MACC planning to coach the 3 officers of how to lie and deny the charge while they are on desk job duty? These 3 thieving officers can do more harm by being present in the MACC office. Perhaps the MACC is so short handed that they need every available officer (corrupt and thieving ones included) to fabricate and doctor evidence. The MACC chief himself should get his head examined if he had approved of the transfers of the thieving officers.

Fourthly, where is the police action in this case? Is the police just sitting idly by until the MACC completes its own internal investigations. The PDRM's integrity is also at stake here in case the IGP is not aware. The public's perception is that the MACC and PDRM are "adik beradik" with each covering the other's back or backside. Of course the AG is the big "abang" in this "adik beradik" trio. We should not be surprised if the three thieving MACC officers decide to return the US$300,000 to the money changers and the AG proclaimed "NO FURTHER ACTION" since the money has been returned. The MACC chief may even give another lame excuse that "Semua ada lah Misunderstanding. The officers hanya took the money to check the US dollars are not counterfeit. Kita di MACC hanya want to eliminate counterfeitng". Wanna bet the MACC will use this excuse?

And finally, you are absolutely correct that "nobodies" like us will be subjected to the highest degree of abusive interrogation by both the PDRM and MACC on lesser charges (example, RM2,000 alleged corruption in TBH's case). We will definitely not be invited to have afternoon tea with the MACC or PDRM as in the case of esteemed VIPs like Khir Toyol or Tun Ling. Such sickening things in this country and the PM is still wondering why the public has lost confidence in him and his government.

Datuk,
I wonder what the Home Ministry/Finance Ministry has to say about this shameful episode. Definitely Malaysia would be a laughing-stock in the eyes of the world. OR is this one of the criterions needed for the country to achieve "developed" status...come 2020?

I always had the impression that if police is involved, it is ARREST-REMAND ORDER-INVESTIGATE-CHARGE OR RELEASE. WTF is going on with an internal inquiry. Where is the Home Minister when you need him to explain these "new"procedures.

Wow, so if you are MACC officer and is alleged to have committed a crime, there is no need for the police to arrest first and then investigate. Only an "internal probe" and transfer to desk job with full pay. No risk of dying from "water in the lungs" or accidentally falling from tall buildings then. BTW how does a 20 to 25 year attained the exalted rank of "senior officer in the MACC" that they are immune to any legal action.

Dato,
I am as perplex as everybody else why the MACC officers involved does not come under the purview and jurisdiction of the PDRM? It is a straight-forward case of robbery. It is just as simple as that. Being a criminal case they should have be in remand and awaiting to be charge in Court. Not to be transferred and allowed to continue to serve the public. It is just mind- boggling, indeed!! I just CANNOT believe what I heard. OMG what has happened to our justice sytem??

What do you expect from these people? Just look at Teoh Beng Hock and Sarbaini cases. I don't we need to gather much information to realize what kind of anti-corruption department we have.
